Karazin University has held the opening of the Forum Community and Us: Working Together for non-governmental organizations and volunteer initiatives operating in the east of Ukraine.
The Presidium comprised UNHCR Deputy Regional RepresentativeVanno Noupech, the Deputy Head of Kharkiv Regional State Administration, Mykhailo Cherniak, the Deputy Mayor for Health and Social Protection of People, Svitlana Horbunova-Ruban, Karazin University President Vil Bakirov, the Director of Kharkiv Regional Institute of State Administration of the National Academy of State Administration under the office of the President of Ukraine, the Head of Kharkiv University Consortium, Liudmyla Bielova.
In his welcoming address Mr. Bakirov emphasized the sсope of the tragedy the internally displaced persons have become victims of, “It is symbolic that this event takes place within the walls of Karazin University, one of the oldest higher educational institutions of Europe and the world with long-standing philanthropic, altruistic and patronage traditions. The purpose of the Forum is to exchange experience, work out common mechanisms of work, determine the priority tasks and problems. This will help us to carry out our activities more specifically and effectively.”
Ms. Horbunova-Ruban stressed the importance of the event that brought together representatives of non-governmental organizations and volunteer initiatives, whose activity focuses on internally displaced persons, their fruitful cooperation and constructive dialogue in view of achieving a common goal. The Deputy Mayor also shared her experience in implementing the project United Social Network uniting all the providers of social services of the city, regardless of their legal status.
The Forum program provides for panel discussions, trainings on the relevant issues internally displaced persons are facing, and the fair of organizations offering an opportunity tolearn about non-governmental organizations and volunteer initiatives operating in the east of Ukraine.
